White House downplays reports of Russian intelligence support to Iran

The White House has downplayed media reports suggesting that Russia may be providing intelligence to Iran about potential American military targets in the Middle East.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the reports would not alter ongoing military operations conducted by the United States in the region.

“This does not change our military operations in Iran,” she said, stressing that American forces continue to strike their strategic objectives. According to her, the operations are achieving their intended military goals and will continue as planned.

The comments came after a report by the The Washington Post claimed that Moscow had been sharing intelligence with Tehran about possible U.S. targets in the Middle East. The report, citing anonymous sources, suggested that the information included the locations of American naval vessels and aircraft.

Despite the allegations, U.S. officials have sought to reduce concerns about Russia’s potential involvement in the conflict. Earlier this week, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that Russia was “not a determining factor” in the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran.

Rising geopolitical tensions

The reported intelligence exchange reflects the broader geopolitical rivalry between global powers and their regional allies. Tensions in the Middle East have intensified in recent months amid escalating confrontations involving Iran and U.S. military forces.

At the same time, Washington remains heavily involved in another major geopolitical conflict. The United States continues to provide intelligence and military support to Ukraine in its war against Russia, a conflict that has reshaped global diplomatic and security dynamics.

Analysts say that if confirmed, intelligence cooperation between Moscow and Tehran could signal a deeper alignment between the two countries as they confront Western influence in the region.

However, U.S. officials insist that American military operations and strategic objectives remain unchanged regardless of the reports.
