Stellantis Halts 2025 Outlook amid Tariff Uncertainty
Stellantis, the multinational company behind brands such as Jeep, Ram, Opel, and Dodge, has suspended its 2025 financial forecast due to rising concerns over shifting tariff regulations. Despite reporting a 14% year-on-year decline in revenue for the first quarter falling to €35.8 billion ($40.7 billion) the automaker expressed cautious optimism about early signs of commercial recovery.
The revenue drop largely stemmed from a 9% decrease in global shipments, which totaled 1.22 million vehicles. This was primarily attributed to scaled-down production in North America, where factories experienced extended shutdowns during holiday periods.
In 2024, Stellantis saw a sharp 12% decrease in global vehicle sales, including a dramatic 25% drop in its core North American market, largely due to challenges in clearing excess inventory in the U.S. The downward trend continued into the first quarter of 2025, with North American shipments falling by 20% and regional revenue plunging by 25%.
Despite these setbacks, Chief Financial Officer Doug Ostermann pointed to positive developments. He noted that, while top-line results were lower compared to the previous year, certain performance indicators signal early gains from the company’s recovery initiatives.
These gains include a rise in North American orders placed before new tariffs took effect, as well as improvements in European operations. Stellantis emphasized its active engagement with policymakers on tariff issues and stated that it is implementing strategies to mitigate any negative impacts.
