Huawei, JAC and Stellantis discuss Maserati electric vehicle venture
A potential partnership between Huawei, Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group and Stellantis is under discussion to develop new energy vehicles under the Maserati brand. The talks reportedly involve a framework where each company would take a defined role in product development, manufacturing and branding, although no final agreement has been reached.
Under the proposed structure, Huawei would contribute core technologies and product definition for the vehicles. JAC would handle co-development and manufacturing operations in China. Maserati would provide design direction and brand identity. The model mirrors Huawei’s existing automotive partnerships in China, where the company collaborates with multiple manufacturers under integrated mobility alliances.
The vehicles under discussion would follow a dual branding strategy depending on the market. In China, the models could be sold under Huawei and JAC’s Maextro brand. Outside China, they would carry the Maserati badge. The first model is reportedly in the design phase, with mass production targeted for the second half of 2027 if negotiations progress.
The talks come at a critical moment for Maserati, which has faced declining global sales in recent years, including a sharp drop in deliveries in 2025. Stellantis, the parent group of Maserati, has also been navigating financial pressure and restructuring efforts across its portfolio, including a reported net loss of 22.3 billion euros in 2025. Against this backdrop, the group has increasingly leaned on partnerships and joint ventures to strengthen competitiveness in the electric vehicle transition.
Huawei continues to expand its footprint in the automotive sector through alliances with several Chinese manufacturers, including Seres, Chery, BAIC, JAC and SAIC Motor. The company’s broader ecosystem approach has already produced multiple electric models targeting China’s fast-growing new energy vehicle market. The possible inclusion of Maserati would mark one of its most visible collaborations with a traditional European luxury brand.
