Spain Seeks to Strengthen Ties with Morocco in Upcoming Diplomatic Visit
Madrid, Spain - Spain's Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, is set to embark on a two-day diplomatic mission to Morocco next week to enhance collaboration between the two nations, as announced by the Spanish government on Tuesday.
Scheduled for December 13-14, this visit marks Albares' first bilateral trip since the commencement of Spain's new legislative session. During his stay in Morocco, he aims to engage in discussions with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, exploring avenues for increased cooperation in political, economic, commercial, and linguistic domains.
The diplomatic talks follow an April summit between Moroccan King Mohammed VI and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, culminating in a joint declaration underscoring the enduring ties between the countries. Both leaders pledged to strengthen this relationship through continued cooperation, trust, and consultation.
Sending its foreign minister on this mission to Rabat, Spain seeks to fulfill the commitments made during the summit, heralding a new strategic era in its relations with its southern neighbor. This effort comes against the backdrop of improved relations between the two nations throughout the year, overcoming previous tensions related to the Moroccan Sahara.
Through this diplomatic outreach, Spain signals its intent to move beyond historical tensions, reinforcing the enduring connections based on shared geography and history. The goal is to collaboratively capitalize on new opportunities and signal a commitment to fostering even stronger cooperation between Spain and Morocco, benefiting both nations for decades to come.
