Single ticket emerges for CGEM presidency election in Morocco

The upcoming leadership election of the Confédération générale des entreprises du Maroc (CGEM) is shaping up as a non-competitive process, with a single candidate ticket officially registered before the deadline.

The duo of Mehdi Tazi and Mohamed Bachiri stands as the only pair seeking to lead the organization for the 2026–2029 term. In the absence of rival candidates, the election is expected to serve primarily as a formal endorsement rather than a contested vote.

Despite the lack of competition, the electoral process will proceed according to schedule, culminating in a general assembly where the results will be confirmed. Attention is now shifting toward member participation, which is seen as a key factor in determining the legitimacy of the incoming leadership.

Observers note that voter turnout and the number of members eligible to vote—particularly those who have fulfilled their financial obligations—will be closely watched indicators. These elements may influence how the new leadership is perceived within the business community.

Both candidates bring significant experience to the table. Mehdi Tazi is recognized for his background in finance and corporate leadership, while Mohamed Bachiri has built a strong reputation in the industrial sector, particularly in automotive manufacturing. His previous leadership roles have reinforced his standing among economic stakeholders.

The transition comes as the current president, Chakib Alj, approaches the end of his mandate. The incoming leadership is expected to play a central role in supporting Morocco’s economic transformation and strengthening the voice of the private sector.
