A disturbing crime has sent shockwaves through the Moroccan city of Kenitra, where a 16-year-old boy has confessed to the rape and murder of his five-year-old niece. The heinous act occurred on Monday in the suburban area of Sidi Taibi while the girl's mother attended Taraweeh prayers.

The victim, identified as Jaidaa, vanished during her mother’s prayers, prompting an immediate search by family members and local residents. Photos of the missing girl circulated widely on social media, heightening community concern. Tragically, Jaidaa's body was discovered the following morning by cleaning workers in a large waste container close to her home.

In response to the horrific discovery, the Royal Gendarmerie swiftly initiated an investigation, leading to the teen’s arrest just hours later. Initial reports reveal that the suspect confessed to both raping and strangling his niece. A law enforcement officer’s keen observations were instrumental in the rapid apprehension of the perpetrator.

The victim resided near the commune headquarters and the local Royal Gendarmerie center, raising questions about safety in the vicinity. The suspect is currently in preventive custody, with the public prosecutor overseeing the ongoing investigation into the motivations behind this tragedy.

The incident has ignited widespread outrage among citizens, who are voicing their concerns over parental supervision and demanding enhanced security measures to safeguard children. Local residents are calling for severe penalties for the suspect as a means of justice for this atrocious crime.

Jaidaa's body has been transferred to the Kenitra morgue for an autopsy, and authorities are diligently pursuing the details surrounding the case. This incident evokes memories of another tragic event in 2020, when an 11-year-old boy named Adnane was raped and murdered in Tangier, leading to a death sentence for the main perpetrator. Despite this, Morocco has not executed anyone since 1993, and in December, the country voted in favor of a UN resolution advocating for a global moratorium on the death penalty.

According to the Ministry of Justice, there are currently 88 individuals on death row in Morocco, including one woman.
