Albares: Morocco–Spain relations at their “Best Historical Moment”

Morocco–Spain relations are currently at their “best historical moment,” Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares declared Thursday in Madrid.

The statement came during a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, held on the sidelines of the 13th Morocco–Spain High-Level Meeting. According to the Spanish Foreign Ministry, the two officials discussed the implementation details and mechanisms of the agreements signed during the summit.

The agreements cover areas such as feminist foreign policy, cooperation between diplomatic academies, and the mobility of young diplomats. Both Albares and Bourita reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the roadmap adopted in 2022 and expressed a shared intention to deepen a “friendship and neighborly relationship” that extends across the African continent.

The meeting also highlighted the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, which presents significant opportunities across multiple sectors.

Trade relations between the two countries remain strong. Spain continues to be Morocco’s leading commercial partner, with Morocco ranking as the third-largest destination for Spanish exports in 2024, totaling €12.859 billion. Simultaneously, Morocco ranked fourth among non-EU suppliers to Spain, with exports amounting to €9.834 billion, according to the ministry’s statement.
