Morocco: The gateway to Africa

The Republic of El Salvador’s ambassador to Rabat, Ignacio de Cossío, emphasized on Friday in Tangier that Morocco serves as the "best" gateway to Africa. His remarks were made during the inauguration of the exhibition "El Salvador: Beauty in Colors."

De Cossío stated that establishing El Salvador's only diplomatic representation in Africa in Morocco is a "strategic choice" fully aligned with President Nayib Bukele’s vision.

"We have made the right decision by connecting with Africa through Morocco. There is no better country and no better entry point into the African continent than the Kingdom of Morocco, for which I express my gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI," he remarked.

Highlighting the historical and cultural significance of Tangier, the ambassador referred to the ancient city as a "shining international city" that has welcomed a diverse array of visitors throughout its millennia-long history, including Greek and Roman sailors, Byzantine warriors, Visigoths, Vandals, and Phoenicians.

Organized by the Embassy of the Republic of El Salvador in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute of Tangier, this exhibition features around twenty artworks by renowned Salvadoran artists, including Madger Linares, Renacho Melgar, and Carlos Ovidio Rosales.

Running until April 19, the exhibition invites the public to explore a collection that blends urban graffiti, traditional portraits, and vibrant landscapes, offering a poetic and powerful perspective on Salvadoran identity and memory.
