Let cofounder Amir Hamza critically wounded in Lahore shooting
Amir Hamza, a senior figure in Lashkar-e-Taiba, was critically wounded after being shot by unidentified attackers in Lahore. The shooting took place outside the offices of a local news channel. He was taken to hospital with severe injuries, and his condition remains critical. Authorities have opened an investigation, and no group has claimed responsibility.
This is the second attempt on Hamza’s life in less than a year. In May 2025, he was seriously injured in a separate attack at his residence in Lahore. That incident followed the killing of Abu Saifullah, another senior figure in the group, under unclear circumstances. The sequence of events has raised questions about possible internal divisions.
Security sources have pointed to factional tensions within Lashkar-e-Taiba as a potential motive. However, investigators have not confirmed any theory, and the absence of a claim of responsibility leaves the case unresolved.
Hamza is one of the founding members of the group, established with Hafiz Saeed in the mid 1980s. He has played a central role in the organization’s messaging and propaganda activities over several decades.
The United States Department of the Treasury designated him as an international terrorist in 2012. Authorities in India have linked him to the 2005 attack on the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru, which killed one scientist. He has been associated with multiple militant operations targeting India and other countries.
