Trump warns of much stronger strikes on Iran if Tehran retaliates

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Iran that it could face significantly more severe American military action if Tehran responds to the latest U.S. strikes, escalating already heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.

In a message published on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Iran would face attacks of greater intensity and scale if it retaliated against the United States. He described the latest American operation as justified and linked it to what he said were recent Iranian actions involving the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

According to Trump, Iranian forces had attempted to place naval mines in the waterway and had launched eight missiles toward a U.S. military base in the Middle East. He said the missiles were successfully intercepted and claimed that no mines currently remained in the Strait of Hormuz, either because they had been removed or destroyed.

U.S. forces confirmed earlier Tuesday that they had carried out additional strikes against targets in Iran. U.S. Central Command said the operation followed recent attacks allegedly conducted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, as well as against American military personnel deployed in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategically important maritime routes, carrying a substantial share of global oil and gas shipments. Any disruption to traffic through the waterway could have consequences for international energy markets and increase pressure on an already fragile regional security environment.

The latest confrontation comes amid a sharp deterioration in relations between Washington and Tehran. Both sides have repeatedly accused each other of threatening regional stability, while military incidents involving U.S. forces, Iranian personnel and commercial shipping have increased concerns about a wider escalation.

Trump’s latest warning signals that Washington could respond forcefully to any Iranian retaliation. At the same time, the situation raises concerns among regional and international actors about the possibility that further military exchanges could expand beyond the immediate targets and affect neighboring countries or international maritime trade.

The developments are being closely monitored because any prolonged confrontation involving Iran and the United States could have broader geopolitical and economic repercussions, particularly if commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted.
