Israeli defense minister warns economic pressure could increase Iran attack risk
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has warned that intensifying economic pressure on Iran could increase the likelihood of Tehran launching an attack against Israel, as tensions between the two countries remain closely monitored.
Speaking at the “Time of Decision: Democracy and Society” conference, Katz said Iranian authorities have historically tended to carry out certain operations during Jewish holidays, urging continued vigilance as regional tensions develop.
Katz said Israel is closely following the growing confrontation between the United States and Iran and is preparing for a range of possible scenarios. He stressed that the Israeli military is ready to respond to potential threats and maintains the capabilities required for both defensive and offensive operations.
According to the Israeli defense minister, Israel will not allow threats against the country to develop into reality without a response. His remarks reflect the heightened security concerns surrounding Iran’s regional activities and its broader confrontation with Israel and the United States.
The warning comes amid persistent tensions over Iran’s military capabilities, nuclear program and regional influence. Any escalation between Tehran and Israel could have wider consequences for the Middle East, particularly if it triggers attacks on strategic infrastructure or draws additional regional actors into the confrontation.
The conference where Katz spoke was organized by Yedioth Ahronoth and Ynet in cooperation with the Israel Democracy Institute. It brought together political figures, government ministers, former judges, senior law-enforcement officials, academics, researchers, economists and civil society representatives.
The event focused on major political, social and economic issues shaping Israel’s future, providing a forum for discussions involving figures from different parts of the country’s public and political landscape.
Katz’s comments underline the continued importance of security preparations as Israel assesses developments involving Iran and the United States. With tensions remaining high, Israeli authorities are preparing for the possibility that economic and geopolitical pressure could contribute to further military escalation.
