Global demand for fertilizers boosts OCP Group’s profits in 2025
Morocco’s OCP Group, the world’s leading exporter of phosphates and fertilizers, has reported impressive financial growth for the second quarter of 2025, reflecting its pivotal role in global agriculture.
Strong revenue growth
OCP recorded revenues of MAD 30.57 billion (approximately $3 billion) in Q2 2025, a 29% increase compared to the same period last year. The surge in profits is attributed to high global fertilizer prices and robust demand in major markets, particularly Brazil and Argentina, which heavily rely on Moroccan phosphate products.
For the first half of 2025, the company achieved revenues of MAD 52.17 billion, marking a 21% rise from MAD 43.25 billion in the same period of 2024. The growth was driven by increased sales volumes of phosphate rock and fertilizers, supported by firm product prices across all categories.
Strategic investments
OCP sustained its ambitious investment program, allocating MAD 9.23 billion in the second quarter to expand production capacity and advance key projects in water management and renewable energy. These investments aim to enhance industrial flexibility and align with evolving market demands.
National sector performance
Morocco’s phosphate sector as a whole has experienced significant growth. The country’s exports of phosphates and related products reached MAD 55.18 billion in the first seven months of 2025, a 20.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This growth was primarily driven by higher sales of raw phosphates (+56.2%), natural and chemical fertilizers (+19.3%), and phosphoric acid (+12.1%), according to the Exchange Office.
Global role in food security
Morocco holds over 70% of the world’s known phosphate reserves, positioning it as a cornerstone of global food security. Phosphates are a critical component of fertilizers, essential for agricultural productivity worldwide. Through OCP, Morocco supplies leading agricultural economies such as Brazil, India, and Europe, while also supporting food production across Africa.
To ensure long-term sustainability, OCP has been investing in renewable energy solutions and seawater desalination technologies. These efforts underline its commitment to reducing environmental impact while maintaining its leadership in the global phosphate market.
