Morocco automotive exports jump 19% to MAD 12 billion in January
Morocco’s automotive exports rose to more than MAD 12.24 billion, or $1.34 billion, in January 2026, marking a 19.1 percent increase from the same month a year earlier, according to data released by the Exchange Office.
The sector’s expansion contrasted with a 2.7 percent decline in overall national exports, which totaled MAD 34.5 billion during the month. Automotive shipments helped offset weaker performance in other key industries.
Growth was driven mainly by vehicle manufacturing and cabling activities. Exports from the manufacturing segment surged 60.6 percent, climbing from MAD 2.72 billion in January 2025 to nearly MAD 4.37 billion. The cabling segment, which includes electrical wiring systems, increased 9.6 percent to reach MAD 4.96 billion.
The aviation industry also recorded gains. Exports rose 8.7 percent to more than MAD 2.43 billion, supported by a 17.2 percent rise in assembly activities, despite a 5.9 percent drop in Electrical Wire Interconnection System components.
In contrast, several traditional export sectors contracted. Phosphates and derivatives exports fell 43.4 percent. Agriculture and agro-food shipments declined 9.5 percent, while textile and leather exports dropped 5.9 percent. Electronics and electricity exports decreased 3.8 percent. These declines contributed to the overall reduction in Morocco’s exports.
The automotive sector’s performance reflects sustained investment in industrial infrastructure, incentives for manufacturers, and the development of specialized automotive zones. These measures have strengthened Morocco’s position in the global supply chain, particularly in European markets.
January’s figures confirm the sector’s central role in supporting export diversification and economic growth, as automotive products increasingly compensate for volatility in phosphates, agriculture, and textiles.
