Explosion in Qom not linked to Israeli attack, Iranian media reports

Explosion in Qom not linked to Israeli attack, Iranian media reports

An explosion that injured seven people in a residential building in the Pardisan neighborhood of Qom was not the result of an Israeli attack, according to Iranian state-affiliated media.

The semi-official Fars News Agency quoted an anonymous source who dismissed rumors of foreign involvement. “Initial assessments suggest the blast was caused by a gas leak, and investigations are ongoing,” stated Qom’s fire department chief.

The incident damaged four housing units, all inhabited by civilians, and there was no indication of military presence or strategic infrastructure, the report added.

The explosion came amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, following last month’s 12-day aerial conflict, during which Israeli and American forces targeted Iranian nuclear sites. Despite multiple subsequent explosions in Iran, none have been officially linked to foreign attacks.

Israel, a long-time adversary of Iran, has previously been accused of assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists involved in what it claims is a threatening nuclear weapons program. Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear activities are strictly peaceful.

Addressing growing public concerns, a government-linked source told Fars:

“There is no cause for alarm. If any hostile operation had taken place on Iranian soil, the public would have been informed, and sirens would have sounded across the occupied territories.”

This latest incident further underscores the volatile atmosphere in the region, where geopolitical narratives and security fears often amplify the impact of domestic emergencies.
