Erdogan accuses Israel of fueling regional tensions for strategic ambitions

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Israel of escalating tensions in the Middle East, warning that continued military confrontations risk destabilizing the entire region.

Speaking to journalists during his return flight from Kazakhstan, Erdogan stated that Israel’s actions and military operations are contributing to growing instability and threatening regional peace. According to the Turkish president, the expansion of conflict across neighboring countries could create long-term political and humanitarian consequences.

Erdogan argued that countries in the region should work together to prevent further escalation and prioritize diplomatic solutions over military responses. He emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through cooperation, regional dialogue and a reduction in hostilities.

The Turkish leader also criticized what he described as external influence and short-term political calculations in the region. He called on governments to focus on protecting national interests and ensuring stability for their populations rather than serving foreign agendas.

In addition to addressing Middle East tensions, Erdogan highlighted the growing strategic importance of the Organization of Turkic States. He noted that Türkiye will host the organization’s upcoming leaders’ summit later this year and pledged to strengthen cooperation in areas such as diplomacy, trade, energy, transportation and security.

According to Erdogan, the Turkic world possesses significant economic and geopolitical potential that could contribute to regional development and stronger international partnerships. He said Türkiye intends to use its presidency of the organization to deepen collaboration among member states.

The Turkish president also spoke about the upcoming NATO Leaders’ Summit scheduled to take place in Ankara in July. He described the meeting as an important moment for the future of the alliance, particularly in light of evolving global security threats and geopolitical tensions.

Erdogan stated that the international security environment has changed significantly since NATO’s creation, requiring new approaches to defense cooperation and burden-sharing among member states. He added that Türkiye remains committed to contributing to a stronger and more responsive alliance.

Political analysts believe Erdogan’s comments reflect Türkiye’s ongoing effort to position itself as both a regional diplomatic actor and a key strategic partner within international organizations.
