Anthropic reports $16.8 billion in quarterly revenue ahead of potential IPO
US artificial intelligence company Anthropic reportedly generated $16.8 billion in revenue during the third quarter of 2026, marking an increase of approximately 45% from the previous quarter. The figures, reported by the Financial Times and Bloomberg, come as the developer of the Claude AI models prepares for a possible stock market debut later this year.
According to the reports, Anthropic shared the figures with institutional investors during a meeting at its San Francisco headquarters on Wednesday. The results have not been audited, and the company declined to comment publicly on the reported financial performance.
The latest figures would represent a substantial increase from the $11.6 billion in revenue reportedly recorded in the second quarter, up from $4.8 billion in the first three months of the year. Although the pace of growth appears to have moderated compared with the previous quarter’s more than doubling, the reported expansion highlights the strong demand for generative AI tools and services.
Anthropic develops Claude, a family of AI models used for tasks including software development, research, writing and business automation. Demand from companies seeking to integrate AI into their operations has become an important driver of growth across the sector, as businesses invest in tools designed to improve productivity and automate complex workflows.
The company has also reportedly told investors that it achieved adjusted profitability for a second consecutive quarter. This measure excludes certain expenses, including some stock-based compensation. Anthropic is said to be generating more cash than it consumes and earning approximately $1.70 in revenue for every dollar spent on computing capacity, an important cost factor for companies operating large AI models.
Attention is now turning to a potential initial public offering in November 2026. Bloomberg has reported that share marketing could begin during the week of November 9, with a listing potentially taking place before Thanksgiving on November 26. However, Anthropic has not officially confirmed a timetable, and the reported dates remain tentative.
Investor estimates have reportedly placed the company’s potential valuation between $1.8 trillion and $2 trillion, compared with approximately $965 billion in May. These figures remain estimates rather than a confirmed IPO valuation, which would ultimately depend on market conditions, investor demand and the terms of any offering.
If the reported figures and valuation expectations are borne out, Anthropic’s debut could become one of the largest public listings in financial market history. The prospect reflects the growing importance of AI businesses to global investment markets, while also raising questions about whether rapid revenue growth can be sustained amid substantial computing costs, intense competition and evolving expectations for the commercial returns on artificial intelligence.
