Discord hack exposes 70,000 IDs after Third-Party breach
Discord has confirmed that a data breach affecting one of its third-party contractors may have exposed sensitive information, including official identification documents, belonging to approximately 70,000 users. The company has launched an internal investigation.
The incident did not involve a direct intrusion into Discord’s own infrastructure but rather a breach of 5CA, a Dutch company providing customer support and moderation services. According to Discord, this supplier was the target of unauthorized access, compromising data linked to support and Trust & Safety operations.
What data was compromised?
The breach appears to affect users who had interacted with Discord’s support or moderation teams. Most concerning is the potential exposure of government-issued ID photos, used during age verification or account recovery processes.
Discord emphasized that no personal messages or in-app activities were accessed beyond communications with support agents.
In response, the company revoked 5CA’s system access and launched a full forensic investigation in collaboration with cybersecurity authorities. Affected users are being notified by email and advised to monitor their accounts and communications for any suspicious activity.
The company reiterated that protecting user privacy remains a top priority and that additional security measures are being implemented to prevent similar breaches in the future.
