Carrefour recalls onion cream-flavored chips over early rancidity risk

A batch of onion cream-flavored chips sold across France by Carrefour is being recalled after a quality issue was identified that could cause the product to become rancid earlier than expected.

The recall concerns Dipster chips with onion cream flavor, sold under Carrefour’s Carrefour Sensation brand. Consumers who purchased the affected products are being advised to check the relevant details before eating them.

Two batches affected by the recall

The products concerned are sold in 170-gram cardboard tubes. They were available in Carrefour and Match supermarkets across France between June 3 and August 10.

The recall was published on the Rappel Conso platform, the French government's consumer product recall service, amid the summer holiday period when chips are commonly purchased for snacks and social gatherings.

The issue reported is described as “early rancidity”, a deterioration that can affect the taste and quality of the product.

Two batches are included in the recall procedure.

Consumers can seek a refund

Customers who have purchased the affected products should check the batch information on their packaging to determine whether their item is included in the recall.

A refund procedure has been put in place for consumers concerned by the measure. They are encouraged not to consume the product if it matches the details listed in the recall notice.

The recall highlights the importance of checking product information when a food alert is issued, even when the issue primarily concerns quality rather than an immediate safety hazard.

For shoppers who recently stocked up on snacks at Carrefour or Match, checking the packaging before opening the tube is therefore advisable.
