Houthi cross-border attack injures 11 civilians in southern Saudi Arabia
At least 11 civilians were injured in a cross-border attack launched from Yemen into southern Saudi Arabia, marking one of the most significant incidents involving civilian casualties inside the kingdom in more than four years.
Saudi officials attributed the assault to the Iran-backed Houthi movement, highlighting the continued security risks along the Saudi-Yemeni border despite years of efforts to reduce regional tensions.
Civilians among the wounded
According to the Saudi-led military coalition, the attack struck the Najran region, which borders Yemen. Those injured included seven Saudi nationals, among them a four-year-old child, as well as citizens of Egypt, Yemen and Pakistan.
Authorities did not immediately provide additional details about the weapons used or the exact locations targeted, while emergency services responded to the affected areas.
Border security remains under pressure
The incident underscores the persistent volatility along Saudi Arabia's southern frontier, where intermittent cross-border attacks have continued despite periods of reduced hostilities in the broader Yemen conflict.
Najran has frequently been exposed to security threats because of its proximity to active front lines, making it one of the kingdom's most strategically sensitive regions.
Regional conflict continues to spill across borders
The attack comes amid renewed military escalation linked to Yemen's long-running conflict, where confrontations between Houthi forces and the internationally recognized Yemeni government have intensified in recent weeks.
Cross-border incidents have periodically drawn Saudi Arabia deeper into the conflict, reinforcing concerns over regional stability and the protection of civilian populations living near the frontier.
Calls for renewed diplomatic efforts
The latest violence is expected to increase pressure for diplomatic initiatives aimed at preventing further escalation and protecting civilians on both sides of the border.
Security analysts note that while military tensions continue, sustained political dialogue remains essential to reducing the risk of additional cross-border attacks and advancing long-term stability in the region.
