EasyJet France cabin crew called to strike over August 15 weekend

EasyJet France cabin crew members have been called to strike over the August 15 weekend after negotiations between unions and management failed to produce an agreement on working conditions.

Three unions representing cabin crew announced the latest action following talks with the airline on Wednesday. The planned strike comes during one of the busiest travel periods of the summer, potentially putting additional pressure on holiday air traffic in France.

Unions demand more predictable schedules

The SNPNC-FO, UNPNC-CFDT and UNAC-CFE-CGC said management had failed to present concrete proposals addressing their concerns.

At the center of the dispute are requests for more stable work schedules and improvements to the day-to-day conditions of cabin crew members.

The unions argue that working conditions have deteriorated over time and want the airline to make commitments that they consider substantial enough to address the situation.

The latest call concerns Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16, while an existing strike notice covers a much longer period, from August 7 through September 2.

Summer travel faces fresh uncertainty

The timing of the action could make its impact particularly significant. The August 15 weekend falls at the heart of the French summer holiday season, when airports and airlines typically experience heavy passenger traffic.

However, the scale of any disruption remains uncertain. A previous strike call by EasyJet France unions, during Easter Monday in April, had only a limited effect on flights.

Passengers are therefore likely to be watching the airline's announcements closely for information about potential cancellations or changes to their travel plans.

Unions leave door open to negotiations

Despite calling for industrial action, the three unions said they remained prepared to return to negotiations.

They are seeking what they describe as firm and meaningful proposals from management, while placing responsibility for any cancellations or operational disruption resulting from the strike on the airline.

The dispute is thus not necessarily closed to a negotiated settlement. Further discussions could still take place before or during the strike period if EasyJet France puts forward measures capable of addressing the unions' demands.

For the airline and its passengers, the immediate challenge is to limit the impact of a labor dispute during one of the year's busiest weekends for leisure travel.
