North Korea’s Kim Supports Russia’s Right to Self-Defense in Ukraine

North Korea’s Kim Supports Russia’s Right to Self-Defense in Ukraine

North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un, has pledged unwavering support for Russia's military actions in Ukraine and committed to strengthening military ties with Moscow. This commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, according to state media reports.

Kim Jong Un asserted that Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons stems from direct foreign intervention, citing the United States as a key contributor to the conflict. He emphasized that Russia has the right to act in self-defense against what he described as imperialist provocations threatening its sovereignty.

During the meeting in Pyongyang, Kim Jong Un criticized the use of US-provided Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) by Ukraine to strike targets inside Russia. He labeled these actions as irresponsible and accused the United States of prolonging the conflict and threatening global stability.

North Korea has firmly supported Russia’s stance, viewing its actions as a defensive response to perceived aggression by NATO and allied forces. Kim Jong Un called recent Russian strikes in Ukraine a necessary demonstration of resolve and commended Moscow’s efforts to safeguard its territorial integrity.

Military cooperation between Russia and North Korea has grown significantly, with reports suggesting that North Korea has dispatched thousands of troops and supplied artillery systems and other weapons to support Moscow’s war effort. However, neither country has officially confirmed these claims.

Meanwhile, international observers have raised concerns about potential exchanges of advanced military technology. Analysts suggest that Russia may be assisting North Korea in developing more sophisticated nuclear missile capabilities and space-based surveillance systems. South Korea and its allies have expressed alarm over these developments, warning of escalating regional tensions.

In a related move, Kim Jong Un and President Vladimir Putin signed a treaty earlier this year committing their nations to mutual military assistance in the event of external aggression. This agreement underscores the deepening strategic partnership between the two countries and marks their most significant defense pact since the Cold War.

As global powers monitor these developments, the alignment between North Korea and Russia continues to raise serious implications for international security and regional stability.
