Morocco unveils Marhaba 2025 strategy to facilitate travel for 7.5 million passengers

Morocco’s government has announced an ambitious plan to streamline travel for the 2025 Marhaba Operation, which aims to assist 7.5 million passengers and 2 million vehicles during the summer months. The operation, a key initiative to support Moroccans living abroad, will mobilize extensive maritime and aviation resources to ensure smooth transit.

Enhanced maritime and aviation capacity

Abdessamad Kayouh, Morocco’s Minister of Transport, revealed the strategy during a parliamentary session on Monday. A fleet of 29 ships has been secured to operate across 13 maritime routes, offering a weekly capacity of 500,000 passengers and 130,000 vehicles. The initiative reflects a coordinated effort to meet the surge in demand during the operation’s peak period from June to September.

In addition to maritime measures, the government has authorized 59 airlines to operate 2,135 weekly flights, connecting Moroccan airports with 141 international destinations.

Royal Air Maroc (RAM), the national carrier, has also ramped up its contribution. The airline has added four aircraft to its summer fleet, increasing its seating capacity to 6.6 million—a rise of 700,000 seats compared to the previous year. This expanded capacity underscores RAM’s commitment to facilitating the return of Moroccans living abroad.

Broader logistical efforts

The Marhaba Operation has been a cornerstone of Morocco’s travel strategy for decades, particularly benefiting the diaspora. Last year, over 2.8 million passengers, including 2 million expatriates, and 662,000 vehicles transited through Moroccan ports.

The improvements in transportation infrastructure and expanded services highlight Morocco’s dedication to easing travel challenges for its citizens. The ongoing success of the operation reflects the country’s growing logistical capabilities and its commitment to fostering stronger ties with its global diaspora.
