Netanyahu thanks Trump for military support in fighting Iran’s axis
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday for sending munitions that had been delayed by the previous administration, which he believes will help Israel “finish the job” against Iran's terror axis.
Netanyahu has long been an outspoken critic of Iran, particularly its nuclear program and its support for proxy groups such as Hamas. The conflict with Hamas in Gaza, which started in October 2023, has escalated Israel's efforts against Iran's proxies.
In a video statement in English, Netanyahu declared, “Donald Trump is the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House.” He went on to emphasize that the munitions sent by Trump would provide Israel with the necessary tools to complete their mission against Iran’s terror axis.
Netanyahu reiterated similar sentiments last month during a press conference with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, asserting that Israel’s objective to confront Iran would be achieved with U.S. support.
He pointed out that since the Gaza conflict began, Israel has delivered a significant blow to Iran’s so-called “axis of resistance,” which includes Hezbollah in Lebanon and Huthi rebels in Yemen.
Upon returning to office in January, Trump reinstated a “maximum pressure” policy against Iran, echoing the approach he took during his first term. He has also demonstrated strong support for Israel, recently inviting Netanyahu to be the first head of state to visit the White House in January.
In a separate statement, Rubio confirmed signing a declaration to expedite around $4 billion in military aid to Israel, also noting the reversal of a partial arms embargo imposed under President Biden.
