Zelensky sees possible meeting with Putin after security guarantees for Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that a direct meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin could become possible once a framework agreement on security guarantees for Kyiv is reached with Western partners.
Speaking to a group of media outlets, Zelensky explained that discussions are underway with allies to define the structure of these guarantees within the next week to ten days. Based on that outcome, the Ukrainian leader intends to convene a trilateral summit that would also include U.S. President Donald Trump.
Zelensky mentioned Switzerland, Austria, and Turkey as potential hosts for the talks, stressing that the venue should be in a neutral European country. He ruled out Budapest due to Hungary’s growing ties with Moscow and firmly excluded the option of holding the meeting in the Russian capital.
According to Zelensky, the priority remains to secure a solid security framework before engaging directly with the Kremlin, underlining that Ukraine seeks international assurances that could prevent future aggression.
