US Dollar Hits 13-Month High as Investors Seek Safe-Haven Assets

The US dollar has extended its gains, reaching its highest level in 13 months against major global currencies, as investors turn to safer assets amid growing uncertainty in financial markets.

The currency rally comes as global stock markets experience increased volatility, driven largely by a sell-off in the technology and semiconductor sectors. This shift has encouraged investors to move away from riskier assets and increase demand for traditional safe havens such as the US dollar and government bonds.

The US Dollar Index, which measures the currency’s performance against a basket of major currencies, rose to 101.69, marking its strongest level since May 2025. The index recorded a daily increase of 0.2%, reflecting sustained upward momentum in the currency.

Market analysts attribute the dollar’s strength to expectations that the US Federal Reserve may maintain a restrictive monetary policy stance, including the possibility of further interest rate adjustments to control inflation. Such expectations typically support the dollar by making US assets more attractive to global investors.

Financial experts also note that ongoing uncertainty in equity markets, particularly in high-growth technology stocks, has reinforced the dollar’s role as a preferred safe-haven currency during periods of global market stress.

According to foreign exchange analysts, the current trend reflects a broader shift in investor sentiment, where capital flows are increasingly directed toward lower-risk assets amid concerns about economic stability and corporate valuations.

As global markets continue to react to economic data and central bank signals, the US dollar remains strongly positioned, benefiting from both monetary policy expectations and heightened market caution.
