Beauty and e-commerce drive global expansion of Moroccan argan oil
Moroccan argan oil continues to strengthen its presence in international markets as consumer demand for natural ingredients and organic products rises, with forecasts pointing to sustained growth over the coming decade across cosmetics, personal care, food and dietary supplements.
According to a report by IndexBox, the global argan oil market is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of around 5.8% between 2026 and 2035. The market index could reach 176 points by 2035, compared with a base level of 100 points in 2025.
The expansion is largely driven by the increasing use of argan oil in cosmetics, skincare and haircare products, alongside its growing popularity in food applications, particularly in North American and European markets.
Cosmetics and skincare account for the largest share of global demand, representing an estimated 45% of the market in 2025. This segment is benefiting from the rise of the “clean beauty” movement, greater consumer preference for natural ingredients and increasing attention to product origin and sustainable sourcing.
Demand is expected to continue rising through 2035 as more consumers seek products that combine personal care with natural and environmentally responsible ingredients.
Haircare products represent the second-largest segment, accounting for approximately 25% of global demand. Argan oil is widely used in shampoos, conditioners, hair masks and styling products, especially in Europe and North America.
Growth in this segment is supported by increasing awareness of hair health, stronger demand for natural and organic products, and the expansion of professional distribution channels, including salons and specialized beauty retailers.
Argan oil is also gaining ground beyond beauty applications. The food sector represents around 15% of global demand, with culinary argan oil becoming increasingly popular in restaurants and specialty food markets.
The growing appeal of organic foods and premium edible oils is expected to support further expansion in this category, particularly among consumers looking for products associated with health and nutrition.
Pharmaceutical and dietary supplement applications account for roughly 10% of demand. This segment could gradually increase as interest grows in the product’s potential health benefits and as research into its applications continues to expand.
Other uses, including massage therapy, aromatherapy, soap manufacturing and traditional wellness products, make up the remaining 5% of demand. Although this segment is expected to grow at a more moderate pace, it could benefit from the expansion of wellness tourism and the popularity of natural personal care products.
The report also highlights the transformation of sales channels as a major opportunity for Moroccan producers and brands. The continued rise of e-commerce and direct-to-consumer models is allowing companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, to reach international customers more efficiently while reducing dependence on traditional distribution networks.
These digital channels are helping Moroccan brands strengthen their visibility in global markets and create stronger connections with consumers.
Despite the positive outlook, the argan oil sector faces several challenges. The limited geographical area where argan trees grow, combined with the impact of climate change, may affect production volumes and supply stability.
Price volatility and the need to guarantee product authenticity also remain important issues for producers and exporters.
Strengthening traceability systems, maintaining high quality standards, investing in sustainable production and developing modern marketing channels are expected to play a key role in supporting future growth and preserving the competitiveness of Moroccan argan oil in global markets.
