Hyundai and Kia post record US sales in September
Hyundai Motor and Kia recorded their strongest-ever September sales in the United States, supported by continued demand for sport utility vehicles and growing interest in hybrid models. Both South Korean automakers reported significant year-on-year increases as they expanded their presence in the highly competitive US market.
Hyundai Motor America sold 77,439 vehicles in September, representing a 9% increase from the same month a year earlier and the company’s best September result on record. Its third-quarter sales also reached a historic high of 246,896 vehicles, up 3% from the corresponding period in 2025.
The company’s SUV range played a major role in the monthly performance. Palisade sales jumped 52% year on year, while Sonata sales increased 39%, Tucson sales rose 32% and Santa Fe sales climbed 21%. Hyundai’s hybrid lineup also reached a September sales record, with hybrid vehicles accounting for 28% of the company’s total US sales during the month.
Kia America also reported its best September on record, delivering 77,009 vehicles, an 18% increase from September 2025. Its third-quarter sales reached 236,659 units, up 8% year on year and marking another quarterly record for the company.
Several Kia models contributed to the strong performance, including the Seltos, Niro, K4, Telluride, Sorento, Carnival, K5 and Sportage. The company also reported particularly strong growth in hybrid and electrified vehicle sales, reflecting the broader expansion of electrified options across its US lineup.
The September figures highlight the continued importance of SUVs and electrified vehicles in the US automotive market. For Hyundai and Kia, the results also point to sustained demand across a broad range of models rather than growth concentrated in a single vehicle line.
The two companies are part of Hyundai Motor Group, which has significantly expanded its manufacturing and sales footprint in North America in recent years. Their latest figures come as global automakers continue to adjust product strategies and production capacity in response to changing consumer demand, particularly in the SUV and electrified vehicle segments.
The record monthly results also gave both brands strong third-quarter momentum. Hyundai’s quarterly sales increased 3%, while Kia’s rose 8%, with both companies reaching their highest-ever third-quarter totals.
The September performance therefore marks another important milestone for the Korean automakers in the United States, where competition remains intense among global manufacturers and demand continues to evolve toward larger vehicles and more fuel-efficient powertrains.
