Europa Universalis V expands its historical map with new Morocco and Spain content
Morocco is set to take a more prominent role in the latest historical content coming to Europa Universalis V, as Paradox Interactive prepares to release the new Across the Pillars Chronicle Pack on October 28, 2026.
The expansion focuses on the historical rivalry between Castile, Marinid Morocco and Granada, placing the Strait of Gibraltar at the center of a new strategic scenario. Players will be able to influence the struggle for control of the passage linking the Atlantic and Mediterranean, while shaping the political future of southern Iberia and North Africa.
The new content introduces historical situations, decisions, country interactions and events designed specifically around the competition between the Iberian and Maghrebi powers. It also adds new historical events for Morocco, Granada and other countries in the region, alongside technological advances and additional visual elements such as unit and ship models, portraits, monuments and artwork.
The expansion also adds new expedition-related content, giving players additional ways to explore distant territories and pursue strategic objectives. Music will form another part of the regional atmosphere, with new Moroccan-themed compositions inspired by traditional 16th-century call-and-response music, alongside Castilian tracks performed with historical influences.
Across the Pillars will be released alongside the free 1.4 “Rio Salado” update for the base game. The update will introduce broader gameplay changes, including new expedition mechanics as well as adjustments to religion, dynastic systems and trade.
Paradox Interactive has set the suggested retail price for Across the Pillars at €19.99. The Chronicle Pack will also be included in the Europa Universalis V: Premium Edition.
With this release, Europa Universalis V continues to expand its historical scenarios by bringing greater attention to the political, military and cultural dynamics that connected North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula.
