Ukraine targets Russian Taman port in major drone strike
A series of Ukrainian drone attacks has severely damaged the Taman seaport in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, igniting large fires and disrupting one of the country’s most strategic export and supply hubs. The overnight assault, believed to have involved dozens of drones, struck key infrastructure facilities in the port area, including berths, ships, and a nearby pipeline terminal.
Fires and infrastructure damage
Russian emergency services reported that fires spread across an area of up to 1,500 square meters after several drones hit port installations in the village of Volna. Two ships and multiple loading docks were damaged, forcing the evacuation of crews and port workers. Authorities confirmed that a pipeline at the Volna terminal was also struck, sparking additional fires over a 100-square-meter zone. The damaged facility handles crucial shipments of fuel and ammonia, both vital for Russia’s southern export operations.
Disruption of key logistics route
The Taman port, located near the Crimean Bridge, is a cornerstone of Russia’s southern logistics network. It plays a central role in transporting goods and fuel to occupied regions of Ukraine and in sustaining energy exports that support the Russian economy. The proximity of the attack to the Crimean Bridge — a key military and trade artery built after the 2014 annexation — highlights Ukraine’s ongoing strategy to undermine Moscow’s supply routes and infrastructure resilience.
Expanding campaign on Russian energy assets
The latest strike continues a broader pattern of Ukrainian attacks targeting Russian energy terminals and maritime infrastructure. Earlier in December, drones hit the nearby Temryuk Seaport, destroying much of its fuel storage. These repeated operations form part of Kyiv’s effort to weaken Russia’s logistical capacity while minimizing its ability to sustain the war effort.
Although Ukrainian officials have not publicly commented on the latest operation, satellite monitoring and local reports indicate that cargo activities at the Volna terminal have been suspended pending repair and safety assessments.
