CAN 2025: Bank Al-Maghrib issues commemorative coin and banknote
Rabat – Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) has announced the issuance of a 250-dirham commemorative silver coin and the circulation of a 100-dirham commemorative banknote to mark the hosting of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025 (CAN 2025).
The commemorative coin features, on its obverse, the portrait of HM King Mohammed VI, along with inscriptions in Arabic and Tifinagh identifying the Kingdom of Morocco, as well as the year 2025. The reverse side highlights the official CAN 2025 identity, with an artistic representation of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, combined with African symbolism and festive design elements celebrating the continental tournament.
Minted in silver alloy and produced in proof quality, the coin reflects Morocco’s commitment to combining sporting excellence with cultural heritage.
In parallel, BAM has released a 100-dirham commemorative banknote showcasing the Kingdom’s dedication to sports development and modern infrastructure. The front side displays the portrait of HM King Mohammed VI, national symbols, African-inspired motifs, and a stylized football design. The reverse side illustrates scenes of sporting action within the Rabat stadium, blended with Moroccan and African decorative patterns.
The banknote incorporates advanced security features, including color-shifting inks, a dynamic security thread, microtext, tactile elements for visually impaired users, and alignment marks visible on both sides.
Officials emphasized that the entire design and production process was carried out by Moroccan expertise at Dar As-Sikkah, highlighting national know-how and innovation. Issued in limited quantities, the commemorative banknote has legal tender status and will circulate alongside existing 100-dirham notes.
