Drug kingpin extradited from Morocco and charged in France

Paris – The alleged leader of a major drug trafficking network operating in the Paris region has been extradited from Morocco to France and formally charged by French judicial authorities, according to a statement released by the Lille public prosecutor’s office.

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested in Casablanca in February before being handed over to French authorities in late September. He is currently being held in pretrial detention in France and was charged shortly after his extradition.

French prosecutors accuse him of playing a central role in organizing large-scale drug imports, including cannabis products transported from Morocco and cocaine allegedly sourced from South America. The network is suspected of using both road and maritime routes, targeting several French ports as entry points.

Investigators also believe the suspect maintained links with well-known criminal figures in Marseille, suggesting cooperation between different criminal groups to distribute narcotics across France. Authorities estimate that the operations generated millions of euros in illicit profits.

Prior to his extradition, several other members of the same network were arrested and charged, including individuals working in port facilities. According to prosecutors, the group relied on insider assistance to facilitate the movement of illegal shipments.

The case highlights ongoing judicial cooperation between Morocco and France in the fight against international drug trafficking networks.
