Tourist bus accident in New York leaves multiple dead and injured
A tragic road accident occurred in northern New York State on Friday when a tourist bus carrying around 50 passengers overturned near Buffalo, close to the Canadian border. Authorities confirmed that several people were killed and dozens injured, including children.
According to police reports, most of the passengers were of Indian, Filipino, or Chinese origin. The bus had departed from Niagara Falls and was heading toward New York City when it suddenly lost control just before the Pembroke exit. The vehicle veered into the central reservation before ending up in a roadside ditch.
James O’Callaghan, spokesperson for the New York State Police, told local media that some passengers were trapped inside the vehicle while others had been ejected during the crash. Translators were dispatched to help communicate with the injured foreign tourists.
“We believe one of the victims is a child, and unfortunately, as time goes on, we are losing more people,” O’Callaghan stated.
Emergency services were quickly mobilized, with eight helicopters deployed to transport critically injured victims, including two children, to nearby hospitals. Peter Cutler, an official at Erie County Medical Center, reported that 21 adults had already been admitted for treatment.
Images broadcast by local media showed the bus lying on its side, heavily damaged. Governor Kathy Hochul expressed her condolences on social media, calling the crash a “tragic accident,” and confirmed that state authorities were coordinating with local police and rescue teams to assist the victims.
