Morocco-China: 7th joint commission on economic cooperation held in Beijing

The seventh session of the Joint Commission on Economic, Trade, and Technical Cooperation between Morocco and China took place on Tuesday in Beijing. The session, part of the ongoing strategic partnership established in 2016, was co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, and China’s Vice Minister of Commerce, Zhang Li.

A high-level Moroccan delegation, including representatives from several ministries and the Moroccan Ambassador to China, Abdelkader El Ansari, attended the meeting. The discussions highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to deepen strategic dialogue and strengthen bilateral ties.

During the session, the Chinese side praised Morocco’s economic progress and lauded HM King Mohammed VI’s visionary leadership. Minister Mezzour presented Morocco’s major development projects and emphasized the opportunities associated with co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

The bilateral talks also focused on Morocco’s role as a strategic hub in Africa and as a platform for China-Africa cooperation within the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). Both parties discussed ways to balance bilateral trade flows, expand Chinese access to Moroccan exports, and enhance cooperation in infrastructure, technology, digital connectivity, investment, renewable energy, tourism, and higher education.

The commission concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen the Morocco-China strategic partnership and transform dialogue into tangible, mutually beneficial results. Minister Mezzour also held bilateral meetings with Chinese officials to further strengthen trade and investment collaboration.
