Defamation: influencer Soukayna Benjelloun sentenced to three months in prison
The Ain Sebaâ First Instance Criminal Court has sentenced Moroccan influencer Soukayna Benjelloun to three months in prison and a fine of 100,000 dirhams in a defamation case filed by her ex-husband. Benjelloun, who gained fame on social media for sharing details about her divorce and personal experiences, faced legal action following a complaint from her former spouse.
The court also handed a sentence to the plaintiff, ordering him to serve one month of suspended prison time and pay a fine of 40,000 dirhams. Benjelloun had previously been held in provisional detention since late November before being transferred to Oukacha Prison.
This case highlights the growing legal scrutiny surrounding content shared on social media, particularly when personal disputes are made public. The ruling has attracted significant public attention due to the influencer’s high-profile online presence and the details of her divorce.
