TikTok removes over 1 million videos in Morocco during Q1 2025

TikTok has revealed that it removed 1,040,981 videos from its platform in Morocco during the first quarter of 2025. The takedowns were part of the company’s ongoing efforts to enforce community guidelines and ensure content safety across the platform.

The social media giant’s Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, released on Monday, highlighted a 98.9% proactive detection rate in Morocco. This means that nearly all violative content was detected and removed using automated systems before users could report it. Additionally, 92.1% of these videos were removed within 24 hours of being posted, reflecting TikTok's emphasis on rapid and efficient moderation.

In addition to video content, TikTok addressed violations in live-streamed content. During the quarter, the company banned 44,121 live hosts and disrupted 77,396 livestreams for breaching community standards in Morocco. However, the report also noted that 53,525 videos were restored following successful appeals, underscoring TikTok's commitment to providing users with a transparent and fair moderation process.

The enforcement actions in Morocco form part of a broader initiative across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, where TikTok removed over 16.5 million videos during the same period. Iraq led the region with 10 million removals, followed by Egypt with over 2.9 million, while the UAE and Lebanon recorded 1,051,226 and 1,349,478 video removals, respectively. Proactive removal rates across the MENA region remained above 98%, with most violations addressed within 24 hours.

Globally, TikTok reported a 50% increase in the removal of violative livestreams, with over 19 million livestreams stopped in Q1 2025. The company attributed this surge to advancements in automated moderation technologies capable of detecting policy violations in real-time.

TikTok’s hybrid approach to moderation combines automated detection with human review, ensuring that users are informed when content is removed and allowed to appeal decisions. The company emphasized that its evolving content protection strategies integrate advanced technology with human oversight and partnerships to maintain a safe and transparent platform for users worldwide.
