Cambodia accuses Thailand of bombing the border city of Poipet

Cambodia has accused Thailand of carrying out an airstrike on the border city of Poipet, a major crossing point between the two countries known for its numerous casinos and economic activity.

According to a statement released by the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, a Thai F-16 fighter jet allegedly dropped two bombs on a municipal area of Poipet late Thursday morning. Thai authorities have not issued an immediate response to the accusation.

The incident comes amid escalating tensions between the two Southeast Asian neighbors, who have long disputed sections of their shared border. The current clashes have reportedly entered their second week, raising serious concerns about regional stability.

The ongoing violence has resulted in dozens of casualties on both sides and forced large-scale evacuations. Authorities estimate that hundreds of thousands of civilians have fled border areas in Cambodia and Thailand due to the fighting.

Poipet holds strategic and economic importance, serving as one of the main land gateways between the two countries. The situation remains fluid as diplomatic efforts struggle to contain the escalation.
