Morocco expands tourism accommodation capacity by 43,000 beds in two years

Morocco has significantly strengthened its tourism infrastructure over the past two years, increasing its accommodation capacity by 43,000 beds, according to figures released by the Moroccan Society for Tourism Engineering (SMIT).

This growth is part of the national tourism roadmap for the 2023–2026 period, which aims to modernize the sector, diversify tourism products, and enhance the country’s attractiveness as a global destination. The expansion has raised Morocco’s total accommodation capacity to more than 304,000 beds nationwide.

Beyond accommodation, SMIT has supported over 1,500 tourism-related projects across several segments, including gastronomy, leisure activities, digital entertainment, and eco-tourism. These initiatives are designed to stimulate local economies, create jobs, and encourage sustainable development.

Authorities highlighted the importance of investing in tourism products and experiences, noting that improved infrastructure and diversified offerings are key drivers of growth. The strategy also emphasizes closer cooperation with local authorities and a stronger territorial approach to tourism development.

Looking ahead, priorities include accelerating investment promotion, strengthening regional tourism projects, and expanding digital tools to better guide investors and improve service delivery across the sector.
