Marrakech introduces next-generation buses to enhance urban transport

Marrakech has strengthened its urban transport network with the launch of next-generation buses, aimed at improving public transit quality and making it more attractive to citizens. The launch ceremony was attended by Khatib El Hebil, Wali of Marrakech-Safi, and Samir Goudar, President of the Regional Council.

The initiative is part of the restructuring project for the Marrakech Transport network, in line with sustainable urban development goals. A total of 349 new buses have been acquired, including 207 already in service, 127 in the process of delivery, and 15 electric buses pending arrival, representing a total investment of nearly 717.5 million dirhams.

Modern systems for ticketing, operational assistance, and passenger information have also been implemented, with an investment of approximately 110.3 million dirhams, enhancing the user experience and supporting network management.

The planned future network will include 25 urban lines, three of which will be electric, covering 281 km and reaching 83.5% coverage of the city and its outskirts. Semi-urban lines will also be reorganized, expanding from 22 lines (837 km, 17% coverage) to 39 lines (1,060 km, 29.1% coverage).

Zakaria Bellouchi, Director of the Marrakech Urban and Semi-Urban Transport Management Company, emphasized that the buses are equipped with advanced technology for real-time passenger information, innovative ticketing systems, air conditioning, Wi-Fi access, surveillance cameras, and accessibility features for people with reduced mobility.

The project, managed under a delegated framework supervised by Marrakech Transport, reflects a commitment to modern, safe, and sustainable public transportation, capable of keeping pace with the city’s urban and demographic growth.
