Tanger Med handles 11 million containers, strengthens global port ranking

Morocco’s Tanger Med Group closed 2025 with consolidated revenue of 13 billion dirhams, marking a 16 percent increase from the previous year. The growth reflects sustained performance across its core sectors, including port operations, logistics, industrial zones, and services.

At the center of this expansion is the Tanger Med port complex, which confirmed its status as the leading port in the Mediterranean and Africa. The platform handled more than 11 million containers in 2025, measured in twenty-foot equivalent units, surpassing a long-anticipated milestone. According to the latest global rankings, the port now stands 17th worldwide in container traffic, placing it alongside major European hubs.

The group’s activities extend beyond the main port through its participation in a national terminal network. It operates 35 specialized terminals across 21 ports, which processed 67 million tons of cargo during the year, up 6 percent. When combined with Tanger Med Port Authority operations, total throughput reached 209 million tons of goods and 12.42 million containers, reinforcing Morocco’s position in global trade flows.

Industrial zones remain a key driver of the group’s model. Tanger Med manages around 3,000 hectares of economic zones hosting more than 1,500 companies across sectors such as automotive, aeronautics, textiles, agribusiness, and logistics. These zones generated a business volume of 188 billion dirhams in 2025 and supported 145,000 jobs, highlighting their role in national industrial development.

The latest figures confirm Tanger Med’s integration into major East-West and North-South trade routes. With rising volumes, expanding industrial capacity, and steady revenue growth, the platform continues to strengthen its competitiveness among global logistics gateways.
