Morocco Courts Indian Industry After Africa Top Industrial Ranking
Morocco is positioning itself as a strategic partner for Indian industrial expansion following its emergence as Africa’s top-ranked industrial economy. The country is targeting investment in defense, automotive, aerospace, green technologies, and logistics, presenting itself as a gateway linking Europe and Africa for manufacturing and exports.
The push comes as Morocco seeks to deepen industrial ties with India through structured cooperation in advanced manufacturing. Officials present the country’s industrial model as the result of long-term national strategies, sustained investment, and policy stability. The approach aims to align with India’s global manufacturing ambitions and Europe’s integrated supply chains.
A key pillar of Morocco’s offer is its logistics infrastructure, led by Tanger Med port, which connects to more than 180 global ports and enables rapid access to southern Europe. The country argues that its geographic position allows firms to reduce delivery times while maintaining access to African markets. This positioning strengthens its appeal for companies seeking diversified export bases beyond Asia.
Industrial data reinforces Morocco’s momentum. A continental industrial ranking published in 2025 placed Morocco ahead of other African economies, reflecting gains in export diversification, production capacity, and manufacturing integration. The broader African industrial base remains limited in global terms, but North Africa has captured a majority share of recent industrial investment flows.
Concrete cooperation between Morocco and India is already visible in the defense sector. An Indian industrial group opened a manufacturing facility in Berrechid near Casablanca to produce armored combat vehicles for domestic use and export. The project includes plans to increase local component integration, expand supplier networks, and create direct and indirect employment while supporting wider defense cooperation between the two countries.
