UN: Hans Grundberg condemns Houthi attacks on civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia
The United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, has strongly condemned the attacks attributed to the Houthis against civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. Among the incidents denounced is an attack that occurred on Saturday against King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
In a statement, the UN official also referred to other strikes carried out earlier in the week against the airports in Riyadh and Abha, which reportedly resulted in civilian casualties.
UN warns about the consequences of the strikes
Hans Grundberg condemned the increasing number of these attacks targeting civilian facilities on Saudi territory. The reported incidents raise new concerns regarding the protection of populations and the security of essential infrastructure in the region.
The repetition of strikes against airports also poses a challenge for traveler safety and the continuity of air traffic. Civilian infrastructure remains particularly vulnerable due to its role in population movement and economic exchanges.
Ongoing regional tensions
This condemnation comes amid ongoing tensions related to the Yemeni conflict and its regional repercussions. The reported attacks against Saudi Arabia illustrate the risks of hostilities extending beyond Yemeni territory.
Through the statement of its Special Envoy, the UN expresses its concern regarding attacks on civilian facilities and the associated human casualties.
