In a testament to Morocco's burgeoning aviation sector, the National Office of Airports (ONDA) has announced that the Tétouan International Airport (Sania R'mel) recorded a remarkable commercial traffic volume of 69,846 passengers by the end of April 2024. This figure represents a 3% increase compared to the same period in the previous year when 67,888 travelers passed through the airport's gates.

The month of April alone witnessed a significant 32% surge in passenger traffic at Tétouan Airport, welcoming 30,542 travelers, a substantial increase from the 23,206 passengers recorded during the same month in 2023.

This impressive growth at Tétouan Airport is a microcosm of the broader success story unfolding across Morocco's aviation landscape. ONDA's figures reveal that the nation's airports collectively registered a commercial traffic volume of 9,518,947 passengers by the end of April, marking an 18% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

The international traffic segment has been a driving force behind this remarkable performance, with a 19% year-on-year growth, accounting for 8,634,901 passengers welcomed during the first four months of the year. This surge can be attributed to the introduction of numerous new international air routes serving Morocco's airports.

Contributing to this upward trajectory is the establishment of a new Air Arabia Maroc air base at Tétouan Airport, offering flights to destinations such as Barcelona, Madrid, Brussels, and Malaga. This strategic move has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in enhancing the airport's connectivity and attracting a broader range of travelers.

Domestically, the aviation sector has also witnessed a remarkable 41% uptick in passenger traffic, with 282,976 travelers taking to the skies compared to April 2023. This surge can be attributed to the entry of a new airline (Ryanair) operating domestic flights between Marrakech and cities like Oujda, Tangier, Tétouan, Errachidia, and Fez, as well as between Agadir and destinations such as Oujda, Fez, and Tangier.

As Morocco continues to invest in its aviation infrastructure and forge strategic partnerships with international carriers, the nation's airports are poised to become thriving gateways, facilitating seamless travel and connecting the country to the world. The remarkable growth witnessed at Tétouan Airport is a testament to Morocco's unwavering commitment to enhancing its aviation sector and positioning itself as a hub for both regional and global air travel.
