Seven Turkish police officers injured during anti-ISIL operation
Seven Turkish police officers were injured during a security operation targeting suspected ISIL fighters in northwestern Türkiye, according to local media reports. The incident occurred during a raid on a residence in Yalova province, south of Istanbul, when an exchange of gunfire reportedly took place.
Authorities said the officers’ injuries were not life-threatening. The operation prompted the deployment of special forces from a neighboring province to reinforce security and secure the surrounding area. Roads leading to the village where the raid occurred were temporarily closed, and residents were redirected to alternative routes.
Local officials also suspended classes at several nearby schools as a precautionary measure. It remained unclear whether any suspects were injured or detained during the operation, which was still ongoing at the time of reporting.
The clash comes amid intensified counterterrorism efforts by Turkish authorities. In recent days, security forces have conducted nationwide raids resulting in the detention of numerous individuals suspected of links to ISIL, particularly amid concerns over possible attacks during the holiday period.
Türkiye has increased its vigilance against ISIL in recent years, citing security risks linked to the group’s presence in the region and its proximity to conflict zones in neighboring Syria.
