Seasonal flu outbreak continues to spread across France
The seasonal influenza outbreak is continuing to expand across all regions of France, according to the latest public health assessments. Health authorities report that the virus is affecting every age group, with a particularly strong increase among children under the age of 15.
Although the outbreak is currently classified as moderate in both community healthcare settings and hospitals, recent indicators suggest that the epidemic peak is likely to occur by the end of the year or in early January. Medical services remain under close surveillance as winter conditions favor the circulation of respiratory viruses.
At the same time, another major winter illness, bronchiolitis, appears to be reaching its peak. This respiratory infection, which mainly affects infants and is often caused by the respiratory syncytial virus, is showing signs of stabilization. Emergency room visits and hospital admissions related to bronchiolitis have begun to decline, according to health officials.
During the 2024–2025 season, France recorded a significantly high number of influenza-related deaths and hospitalizations compared to an average year. Elderly people, pregnant women, individuals with weakened immune systems, and those suffering from chronic diseases remain the most vulnerable to severe complications.
