PS6 leak suggests three console models with prices up to $949

A new leak outlines a potential three-device lineup for Sony’s next-generation PlayStation, with estimated prices ranging from $399 to as high as $949 depending on tariffs. The projections come from hardware analysis shared by Moore's Law is Dead and reported by multiple outlets.

The lineup would include a base PS6 S, a portable version, and a high-end home console. All three are expected to rely on custom chips developed with AMD, using two architectures codenamed Orion and Canis.

The flagship PS6, powered by the Orion chip, is estimated to cost about $743 to manufacture. Analysts suggest it could retail around $699 under normal conditions. The PS6 S, a more affordable home console, has a projected production cost of about $404, aligning with a potential $399 price. The portable version is estimated to cost roughly $494, pointing to a retail price near $499.

Tariffs could significantly alter pricing. A 30 percent import duty would push the high-end console close to $949 and the portable model to around $649. The Consumer Technology Association has warned that tariffs could increase tech product prices by up to 70 percent, with gaming hardware among the most affected.

Memory costs are another key variable. Rising demand from the AI sector has driven up RAM prices, complicating Sony’s cost planning. Earlier reports indicated the company is closely monitoring these trends and could delay the PS6 launch beyond 2027 if component costs remain elevated.

Despite speculation about a $1,000 console, analysts largely reject that scenario. Industry voices such as Digital Foundry suggest a more realistic price point around $599 for the main model. Observers say pricing will depend heavily on supply chain conditions and trade policies in the coming years.

Development work with AMD is ongoing, and the console could be unveiled as early as next year, with a launch window expected in late 2027 or early 2028.
