Benin president seeks stronger partnership with Morocco during Bourita visit
Benin has expressed its intention to deepen cooperation with Morocco across multiple sectors, as President Romuald Wadagni conveyed his commitment to strengthening bilateral ties during a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Cotonou.
The talks took place as part of Bourita’s working visit to Benin and highlighted renewed diplomatic efforts between the two African countries aimed at expanding their strategic partnership.
Benin reaffirms commitment to bilateral ties
During the meeting, President Wadagni sent his greetings to HM King Mohammed VI and expressed his willingness to work alongside the Moroccan monarch to further develop relations between the two nations.
The Beninese leader emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in various fields, reflecting a shared interest in building stronger political, economic and institutional links.
The meeting marked a new step in the ongoing dialogue between Morocco and Benin, two countries seeking to reinforce collaboration within the African continent.
Joint cooperation commission focuses on shared priorities
Nasser Bourita’s visit coincided with the 7th session of the Moroccan-Beninese Joint Commission for Cooperation, a key platform for reviewing existing partnerships and identifying new areas of collaboration.
Bourita co-chaired the session alongside Corinne Amori Brunet, Benin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for the integration of people of African descent.
The commission provides a framework for discussions on strengthening cooperation in areas such as economic development, investment, diplomacy and institutional exchange.
Morocco expands African diplomatic engagement
The meeting reflects Morocco’s broader strategy of strengthening partnerships with African countries through economic cooperation, political dialogue and shared development initiatives.
For Benin, closer relations with Morocco offer opportunities to expand collaboration with a regional partner that has increased its diplomatic and economic engagement across Africa in recent years.
Both sides are expected to continue working toward practical agreements aimed at translating political commitments into concrete cooperation projects.
