Poland to launch Europe’s largest anti-drone system
Poland is preparing to sign a contract to deploy what is expected to become the largest anti-drone system in Europe. The announcement was made by the country’s Defense Minister, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, highlighting Poland’s commitment to strengthening its national security.
Currently, Poland spends nearly 5% of its GDP on defense and aims to establish a protective “anti-drone shield” along its eastern border, which could cost around two billion euros. The country shares borders with Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus and has been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine in the face of the ongoing Russian invasion.
The planned system will integrate various types of weaponry, primarily supplied by local manufacturers but in collaboration with international partners. Last year, Poland signed a contract with the American company Anduril, and discussions are ongoing with the Norwegian group Kongsberg.
This initiative comes amid rising concerns over drone incursions. Poland has closely monitored the extensive use of drones in Ukraine and has also experienced violations of its own airspace by foreign unmanned aircraft. The new system is expected to enhance both national and regional security.
