Morocco's long-term development strategy earns praise from Japanese academic

Morocco's economic, institutional and social progress reflects the implementation of a long-term strategic vision that has strengthened the country's resilience and international standing, according to Kei Nakagawa, President of Hagoromo University of International Studies in Japan.

Speaking on the occasion of Throne Day, Nakagawa said Morocco's development trajectory stands out for its integrated approach, where economic growth, institutional reform, social cohesion and international engagement reinforce one another within a unified national strategy.

Long-term planning at the core of development

Nakagawa argued that Morocco's transformation extends beyond the implementation of individual projects, describing it instead as the outcome of a coherent long-term development model.

She noted that the country's policy framework combines economic modernization, institutional reform, security, human capital development and international openness, creating a comprehensive approach to national progress.

According to the Japanese academic, this strategic continuity has enabled Morocco to pursue immediate priorities while maintaining a long-term vision for sustainable development.

Economic transformation driven by competitiveness

Nakagawa highlighted Morocco's transition from a project-based development model toward a broader strategy focused on competitiveness, territorial integration and attracting investment.

She cited the expansion of modern infrastructure, renewable energy projects, industrial development, upgraded transport networks and integrated economic ecosystems as examples of the country's evolving economic architecture.

In her view, these initiatives demonstrate ambitions that extend beyond short-term economic growth and contribute to a more diversified and resilient national economy.

Institutional modernization and social inclusion

The Japanese scholar also emphasized the importance of institutional reforms accompanying Morocco's economic development.

She pointed to continued efforts to strengthen governance, the rule of law and citizen participation while expanding public policies in education, healthcare, social protection and inclusion.

Nakagawa said these reforms illustrate an approach to development that places citizens at the center of public policy rather than focusing exclusively on economic indicators.

Stability strengthens international partnerships

Addressing Morocco's regional role, Nakagawa described political and institutional stability as one of the country's principal competitive advantages.

She said Morocco has managed to preserve a climate of confidence despite regional geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty, enabling it to pursue multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously.

According to Nakagawa, this stability has enhanced Morocco's credibility as a regional partner in Africa, the Euro-Mediterranean region and the broader international community, particularly through its engagement in South-South cooperation, sustainable development, regional security and efforts to combat violent extremism.

Morocco and Japan deepen longstanding ties

Nakagawa also underlined the enduring relationship between Morocco and Japan, noting that the two countries have built more than seven decades of friendship and cooperation.

She suggested that Morocco's continued economic and institutional development provides additional opportunities to strengthen bilateral partnerships across multiple sectors in the years ahead.
