ONMT Vows to Elevate Morocco's Status as Top Tourist Destination

Morocco’s Tourism Office (ONMT) Sets Ambitious Goals for 2024-2025 Season

In a recent board of directors meeting, Morocco’s Tourism Office (ONMT) reiterated its unwavering commitment to enhancing the nation's global tourism appeal. With a strategic focus on aviation and distribution, the ONMT aims to secure 4.3 million seats for the 2024-2025 season, positioning Morocco as a premier destination for both local and international travelers.

During the meeting, the ONMT reviewed the remarkable successes of the past year’s “Morocco Destination” campaign. The initiative has significantly boosted Morocco's tourism profile, resulting in an impressive surge in traveler numbers. The office reported notable increases in key metrics: arrivals, overnight stays, and tourism revenues rose by 34%, 35%, and 12%, respectively.

The ONMT lauded the effectiveness of the “Like in Action” plan, which aligns with the strategic roadmap for Morocco’s tourism sector. This program has been instrumental in showcasing the country's rich cultural and natural assets, attracting a growing number of visitors.

Highlighting current achievements, the ONMT revealed that nearly six million foreign tourists visited Morocco by the end of May this year, marking a 15% increase compared to the same period last year and a 38% surge compared to 2019. Travel revenues also saw a substantial rise, reaching MAD 31.87 billion in the past four months.

The office expressed satisfaction with its expanded partnerships at both national and international levels, which have bolstered the "Visit Morocco" strategy. In particular, the ONMT has enhanced its collaboration with the airline industry, increasing contractual capacity by 4% in the first half of 2023 and launching new routes to connect Morocco with major tourist-exporting markets.

The ONMT’s ambitious plans for the future include prioritizing aviation and distribution to achieve a 15% increase in available seats for the upcoming season. Last year, Morocco welcomed 14.5 million tourists, and the country is on track to surpass 15 million visitors this year. By 2026, Morocco aims to attract 17 million tourists, with a long-term goal of 26 million visitors by 2030.

In addition to celebrating the tourism sector's recent triumphs, the board paid tribute to Adel Fakir, who served as the Director General of ONMT for the past six years. Fakir has been appointed by King Mohammed VI as the new head of Morocco's National Airports Office (ONDA), following his successful tenure at the Tourism Office. The board, along with Minister of Tourism Fatim Zahra Ammor, extended their best wishes to Fakir in his new role.

As the ONMT continues to drive forward its vision for Morocco’s tourism industry, the country stands poised to solidify its status as a leading destination, offering unparalleled experiences to travelers from around the globe.
