US Ebola patient infected in Congo transferred to specialized hospital in Germany
A U.S. citizen infected with the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been admitted to a high-security isolation unit at Frankfurt University Hospital, German officials confirmed on Monday.
The patient was transferred to Germany for specialist treatment after contracting the virus while working in Congo for a humanitarian organization.

Hospital officials said the patient arrived at the specialized isolation facility in Frankfurt at approximately 3:00 a.m. local time on Monday.
The facility is equipped to manage highly infectious diseases and follows strict international biosafety protocols designed to prevent transmission while providing advanced medical care.
No additional details about the patient's condition were immediately released.
Rare Bundibugyo strain confirmed
The patient was infected with the Bundibugyo variant of the Ebola virus, a less common strain first identified in Uganda in 2007.
Unlike the more widespread Zaire strain, Bundibugyo Ebola has caused relatively few outbreaks, although it can still lead to severe illness and requires the same rigorous infection-control measures.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed last week that the infected individual is an American humanitarian worker who tested positive while in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Strict containment measures in place
German health authorities emphasized that patients with Ebola are treated under highly controlled conditions designed to eliminate the risk of community transmission.
Specialized isolation units such as the one in Frankfurt are equipped with dedicated medical teams, negative-pressure rooms and stringent protective procedures for healthcare personnel.
Officials have not indicated any broader public health risk associated with the case.
